We’re happy to annouce the next coming Welean session.
It will take place in the well known 42 university on October 10th 2014, and we’ll be 13 to participate. If you wanna join, drop us a word, you’re welcome!
Project ideas have been sourced in the team. 4 of them have be selected:
- A beer counter
An app to remember who offer you a beer, and who you need to offer a beer back;
- Scrum web app
A smart, efficient and easy-to-use team scrum board;
- Your mood playlist
A web app suggesting you music playlists depending on your mood;
- Pin on map
Pin any web media on a map to remember/share beautiful places around the world (french speech presentation here);
4 products, so 4 teams of 3/4 people. If you wanna join a project or if you wanna do your own in a funny and challenging atmosphere, let us know and we’ll be happy to work (have fun/drink/sing/laugh/….) with you!
The gamping project
Gamping is a project done during the first Welean session.
The aim of the project was to restart an existing website from scratch, with a new technical stack. Thus, the project owner – Joseph – will be able to raise funds and grow his product to become a real marketplace.
What has been done?
Below some screenshots of the final website. It has been done from scratch, by 3 developpers (Olivier, Thibaud and Tilap). Half of the job done was pure technical

Olivier – Evaneos lead dev – share his feedback about the first Welean session :
I’ve worked on Gamping project. There is already a working version of the website. However, the technical stack was too basic to evolve and to become a commercial marketplace. Joseph, the project leader, is currently raising funds and need great technical fundations to grow up.
So, we wanted to rebuild the most existing features but on a new, clear, efficient technical stack.
Technically, we started from Silex, the Symfony base framework. We have put many improvements (YML configuration, Depency injection, …) and called it Pyrite. We work with some open source tools we have at Evaneos: our model engine, called Berthe, and our i18n translation base.
We have spend hours working on pure technical stuff, and I think it was a bit far from the Lean Startup method. However, we achieve the main user funnel: homepage, map to display available places, place details, and stuff to create/edit a place. Eveything working in many languages.
I’m proud of what we achieve, even if we spent a lot of time on pure technical problems and didn’t succedd to recode all the website features. The atmosphere was really cool (it reminds me the LAN party atmospehr), and even if I have coded 2 days in a row, it was not working for me, it was passion.
I hope next time we’ll be more to challenge higher!
Pascal – Evaneos Market/dev – share his feedback about the first Welean session :
It was really interesting to work on the project pitch. It was short, and offered a large panel of solutions. We had to work on it to scope the project better.
It was a really good experience, with a great, friendly and hard working atmosphere. I was surprised by the quality of the final product and the technical high level people have.
I regret :
– not to be technical good enough to participate more, but I’ve learnt a lot;
– the final product delivered still need some features to totally work.
Christophe – Evaneos developper – share his feedback about the first Welean session :
Welean was really cool, motivating, and I’ve learn a lot. The final product (Creative reporter) works fine and is online. I have discovered new tech and hope we’ll do another one soon!
Regarding Creative Reporter, we have worked with a cool tech stack : nodeJS (express, mongodb, jade, stylus and passport), AngularJS, mapBox, TileMill, cloudinary… I’m really proud of the result for a 2 day project!
The main difficulty was the deadline. We absolutly wanted to deliver a product that works but had to change the final features target many times coz of technical limitations.
Yvan – Evaneos CTO – share his feedback about the first Welean session :
WeLeanIt is a chance to start from scratch and to dive deeply in a project for two days ! Coding during 48 hours in a row with people as enthusiastic as I am allow to :
- re-discover people I work everyday with, but in a different context,
- go further than ever in product and tech,
- learn a lot, really,
- share idea and knowledge,
- eat KFC food and drink RedBull again!
The next session? More teams, to completly achieve a product and to put it online! I’ll be in!
Thanks to twitter, we received more than 30 project ideas. Some basic ones (building a blog), some really challenging (3D app), some based on huge data (a website to compare price of every hotels)… We kept 2 of them.
We found a really great place for 2 days: DojoCrea invited us to their open space!
Welean#1 will take place on December 14th and 15th.
